I came in for my first appointment on 1/4/24.
They took a lot of x-rays, and did an exam.
This is the estimate they gave me.

I had a crown put on Monday, January 15, 2024.

I met with Alexis Rodriguez, Operations Manger, on Wednesday afternoon, January 17, 2024. I showed up unannounced, without an appointment. We spent about 30 minutes together, perhaps more.

When I asked at the dental office the next day for my detailed receipt, it didn't really answer my question. So I asked R.J. My initial estimate for the crown showed my co-pay would be zero. When I came in to have the crown done, I was told it would cost me $57. What accounts for the change?

RJ went and looked at his computer, and then told me it was the Devoted insurance that had changed. I would have to call them to get an explanation. So on 1/16/24, I called 855 251 9742, which is the Delta Dental MA PPO Provider Service number on my Devoted Insurance card. My call lasted 38 minutes. About CerecFired Crowns. Loud kids, mis-information. The person I am speaking to is working from home. The kids and all of the noise you hear in the background is at her end. None of that noise is attributable to me.

Valium

I had an appointment on January 4th, 2024 at Aurora Modern Dentistry. They did an exam, took x-rays. They told me I needed 4 crowns. We scheduled the appointment for the first crown to be done (started) 11 days later on January 15th.

I got an estimate that showed my co-pay would be $zero. I asked for, and got, a scrip for Valium. They told me I had to get a ride to and from the appointment. I could not drive myself if I was going to be taking Valium. And I had to sign digital documents, ahead of time, that said I understood this and agreed to it.

The scrip was for a quantity of 4 pills. Take 2 tablets by mouth 1.5 hours before dental visit, Bring additional 2 tablets with you to your appointment.

There is a warning on the label:

Caution: Read warning

Do not eat grapefruit or
drink grapfruit juice at
any time while taking this
medication.

I did get a ride, to and from the appointment, from Lyft. I did read the instructions that were printed in large type.

No one at the pharmacy said anythong to me about grapefruit. They put the bottle in a paper bag, and asked me if I had any questions. When I said "No", they stapled the receipt to the bag, so the bag was shut, and I could not read the label until I got home and opened the bag.

Kazhall Talebpour, the doctor/dentist never said anything to me about grapefruit. The warning is printed on the label in a small font size that is difficult to read. Note that the actual size of the label 2.25 x 4 inches. The print can be much easier to read on my computer screen than on the actual precsription bottle. It can be misleading.

The font used to print the grapefruit warning is noticably smaller than the font used to print my name, for example.

I did not read the warning, and I was not aware of the warning, until 1/17/24, 2 days after I had taken the pills.

The reason I read the warning is because I peeled the label off of the container, so I could make a digital scan of the label to upload onto the Internet for this little essay.

Osseous Surgery

This is the Estimate Done by Georgann Apgar (Searg) at the nearby dental office for Osseous Surgery that included bone graft. My total cost was $2,095 which was not covered by insurance because there was a 2 year waiting period.

AARP Insurance

AARP Dental Benefits Statement , dated 1/17/24. Refers me to my evidence of coverage.

It took 2 calls to AARP Dental Insurance on Thursday 1/25/24. the first call was at 11:14 AM and took 15 minutes. I spoke with Shawna, working from home. I asked about "pre-authorization". I asked if I could get a pre-authorization done. I cannot ask for a pre-authorization. Only the dentist can ask for a pre-authorization.

the second call was second call was at 12:11 PM, and lasted a little bit longer.

on Friday 1/26/24, I had a very long call with AARP Dental Insurance. The call lasted over 2 hours. I spoke with 2 different service reps. ---------------------------------------------------------

I called USAA on 2/13/24 to ask about the $57 charge on 1/15/24. They could not find the charge. The call lasted 7 minutes.

Turns out the first lady at USAA was a moron. The second call started a billing dispute for me. The call lasted 35 minutes.

I called Delta Denal, to find out where things stand with pre authorization from H&M Family Dentistry. The pre authorization has been submitted, effective 2/22/24 (Thursday). Delta says it may take "up to" 30 days for them to process the pre authorization.
The call lasted about 2 hours.

Maybe next time I should try to get a pre treatment estimate. Or maybe I should just bring an attorney with me to all of my dentist appointments.
