Glioblastoma (GBM) also referred to as grade IV astrocytoma, is a fast-growing and aggressive brain tumor.

It invades the nearby brain tissue, but gennerally does not spread to distant organs.

Here is the essay I wrote April 9, 2020
My number one goal for the year
and the idiotic statement(s)
from Dr Max Bastow, my primary care provider at Kaiser Permaniente
and Leslie Bauer, NP

My brother Jim was diagnosed with glioblastoma 5 years ago. At that time, I watched this YouTube video to find out what it is. The surgeon who gives the talk in the video is named Christopher Duma. He is the same man who did the surgury 5 years ago on my TEDx Talk brother at Hoag Hospital, Newport Beach, CA.

I just watched this video again, on 1/20/24. Because during the NFL season, I speak with my brothers Dave and Jim each week, usually on Friday, and together, we make our football picks for the upcpmming weekend. We pick against the point spread. There are 4 playoff games this weekend. I am writing this at 11:55 am, before any of the games have started.

Our picks are:
Baltimore -9.5 for $10
Green Bay +9.5 for $5
49ers/Green Bay over 50.5 points, for $5
Detroit -6.5 for $10
Buffalo -2.5 for $10

During the 3 way phone call last night (1/19/24), Jim told us that he had an MRI yesterday, and his Oncologist told him that his tumor from the glioblastoma is back. Jim and his wife have an appointment to meet with his surgeon on Monday. It will be the same surgeon that he had 5 years ago, which is the same surgeon you see doing the Ted Talk in the YouTube video.
